highlights

  • U11 is a full-ice division with formal team systems, league standings, and playoffs
  • Skaters usually rotate through positions (Left Wing, Centre, Right Wing, Left Defence, Right Defence) to ensure well-rounded development
  • A hybrid goalie model allows players to rotate between goaltending and skating out
  • Body checking is not permitted at this level
  • NWW teams across tiers 1-6 host Fall Freeze Tournaments in November

season format

Seeding Round - typically late October through early December

  • Used to assess the relative strength of teams within a tier in the North zone
  • Teams play a series of games against various opponents
  • Based on results, teams may be re-tiered into appropriate competitive groupings

Regular Season - typically starts early December

  • Begins after the Seeding Round
  • Teams compete against similarly tiered opponents in the North zone for the remainder of the season
  • Standings during this phase determine playoff positioning

Esso Minor Hockey Week (EMHW) - early January

  • U11 NWW teams compete only against other teams from the North zone
  • The first game counts toward regular season standings; all other games are standalone tournament play
  • It follows a modified single-elimination format — teams are guaranteed two games, but a second loss eliminates them

Adrenaline City Championships - late February to end of season

  • U11 teams from the North and South zones compete to determine the overall city champion.
  • This is a true double-elimination format — teams remain in the tournament until they’ve lost twice.
