NWW Community Hockey's Evaluations are not tryouts, but an assessment of a player’s overall ability and hockey sense. The goal is to determine which division each player is best suited to play in.

  • Player groupings for Evaluation ice times will be communicated through TeamSnap as soon as they are available. Your patience is appreciated as the Evaluations Committee works to collect and review evaluation data.
  • All players are expected to attend all their assigned Evaluation sessions.  Players who are injured/ill, and not able to participate in the Evaluation process, or not able to participate in an Evaluation session, will be required to let the Age Group Coordinator know that the player is not able to participate.
  • Injured and absent players will be treated as fairly as possible. The Evaluation and Team Formation Committee(s) will make decisions on the placement of players who are injured or absent.

2026-2027 EVALUATIONS MANUAL

What's new in the 2026-2027 NWW Evaluations Manual

The biggest change is how U15 and U18 evaluations run. Both age groups now use a two stage format. Everyone skates together in the opening stage (technical skate and small area games for U15, a sorting session and SAG for U18), and rankings from that stage establish the BC and NBC groups. The full ice stage then splits by contact preference, so BC players are evaluated against BC players and NBC players against NBC players. That keeps the level of competition consistent and ranks each player against the group they will actually be placed in. The BC stream runs first and BC teams are formed first, with NBC full ice sessions scheduled afterward so any player not carried forward to a BC team is properly evaluated with the NBC group before NBC teams are set.

Also updated for this season:

  • Skill scoring moves from a 1 to 7 scale to a 1 to 5 scale, with new guidance on using 1 and 5 as anchors rather than everyday scores
  • A new U13AA section covering the evaluation pool, exhibition games, and roster decisions based strictly on evaluation rankings
  • Coach applicants now evaluate 8 to 12 games instead of a 20 game minimum, and participation in evaluations is considered during coach selection
  • U18 adds a small area game session to the ice mix
  • A new Carryover Issues and Separation Requests section, plus standard housekeeping items such as friend request deadlines
