President’s Welcome Message

Welcome Warriors to the 2021/22 season!

On the heels of an incredibly challenging season, we are so excited to see those sweaty and smiling faces back at the rink again!

Your Northwest Warriors Board has been hard at work in the off season and we are pleased to announce that we have streamlined our organizational structure by officially completing the amalgamation of the Crowchild and Westwood Hockey Associations.

Our Team Formation committee has been hard at work preparing for upcoming evaluations.  You will see emails coming from your respective age group coordinators with specific information on your evaluation groups, and schedules are now posted on our website.

While we are planning for a season of normal gameplay, health and safety protocols will remain an important part of the return to the rink.  In order to protect all of our participants the league has introduced a mask mandate for within all arenas, regardless of facility protocols.  For more details, please refer to the Hockey Calgary bulletin.

We know that not everyone will agree with this directive, but we’d like to remind everyone that approximately 65% of our participants are under the age of 12, and therefore ineligible for vaccination.  Whatever your opinion, we ask that you kindly respect this directive.  Respect for all participants, coaches and team staff and volunteers is essential.

Keeping safety in mind, we encourage you to ensure that your player has properly fitting equipment.  If you are new to hockey, or if your player has taken growth spurt this summer, and you need some guidance, check out this great video from Hockey Canada.  Also, please remember that cages (for all under 18), mouthguards and throat protectors are standard safety equipment.  There are resources available to assist families who may need a little help sourcing equipment.  For more information visit: https://www.flamessportsbank.ca/

Finally, we can only run this program thanks to the efforts of our team of awesome volunteers.  If you have some time and energy to spare, we will try to find you a job!  There are roles to be filled at the team level (coaches, managers, treasurers, social coordinators, fundraising coordinators), as well as on activity committees (equipment committee, tournament coordinators, game and conduct committee members).  If you’d like to learn more, please reach out to our Volunteer Director at volunteer@nwwarriorshockey.com

We wish you all the best for a fun, safe hockey season!

Janis Rogers, President
