NWW Season Update – July 17, 2020

Northwest Warrior Families,

Many of you are interested to know what this upcoming season will look like given the current COVID environment. While all of this information is subject to change as public health guidelines change, this message is meant to give you insight into the plans that are underway.

As of today, we are working with Hockey Calgary and the other minor hockey associations to develop a program suitable to the current Phase 2 COVID safety guidelines. Should we still be in Phase 2 at the kick off of season, then we will run evaluations under physical distancing protocols (skill/non-compete drills) in order to sort our players into tiered cohorts. Once the intra-association cohorts (up to 50) are formed, there will be 3-4 parity teams created within each cohort, who will play one another. This structure will remain in place until we move past Phase 2, or the Christmas break (whichever comes first). Should we still be in Phase 2 at Thanksgiving, then Hockey Calgary and the minor hockey associations will begin plans for inter-association cohorts, where the groups will be further sorted into Tiers in order to better align like-ability levels with sister associations for the back half of the season.

The Northwest Warriors is committed to providing a safe, fun and development focused program. Our intention is to have the kids on the ice as often as our ice availability allows. We will endeavour to keep the information on our site as up to date as possible, so please check back here often for updates.

Best regards,

NWW Operations Committee
