Dear NWW Families,
Thank you for your patience in awaiting this communication as we navigate the ever-changing landscape that has been the 2020-21 hockey season! With the recent announcements from Alberta Health Services, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Calgary we appreciate that this has been a confusing couple of weeks, so we would like to provide some clarity from the perspective of the Northwest Warriors.
- The regular minor hockey season has been cancelled. We are proceeding with steps to finalize refund details including what you can expect to get back by age group, options for cash out versus credit carry forward, and timing. Target to get refunds out by the end of February.
- The Northwest Warriors does not plan to run a Feb/March development program. However, Hockey Calgary, as well as some of the other Minor Hockey Associations will likely be operating programs, pending ice availability. Northwest Warrior families are welcome to register in any of these programs. If you are interested in taking part, please be sure to complete the survey sent through TeamSnap to all NWW participants to assist with the planning efforts. - Three of our four arenas have made the decision to remove their ice. However there remains some ice available for private rentals. Please be aware that private rentals are not covered by the Hockey Canada insurance program. All COVID protocols must be followed, including contact tracing and physical distancing. Please respect the facility rules and continue to be diligent in the efforts to keep our community safe.
We would like to take this time to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our community of volunteers who make this program possible. This is the definition of community engagement! The Coaches, Managers, Covid Coordinators, Treasurers, Social Coordinators and parents that spent hours waiting in parking lots this season meant that 75 different teams were able to enjoy this sport this for 2 ½ months this fall. None of these hours of enjoyment would have been possible without the countless hours of the coordinators, activity committee members and board members planning in the background.
